Donaldson Filtration

Donaldson Filtraton - filter solutions of highest quality

The Donaldson Company Inc, also known as Donaldson Filtration, is an American manufacturer of filtration solutions based in Bloomington, Minnesota in the United States.
With 14,000 employees and an annual turnover of almost 2.5 billion US dollars, the Donaldson Company is one of the best known and most successful companies in the industry.
Tod E. Carpenter is the CEO of the company.
Through the acquisition of Ultrafilter from Germany, the Donaldson Company also owns two production sites in Germany.
The commercial vehicle industry can be seen as the largest customer of the products, but also plant operators, e.g. of plants for decentralised energy production, use the offer and the products of the Donaldson Company.

History of the Donaldson Company Inc.

Frank Donaldson invents the first air filter for tractor engines

The foundation of the Donaldson Company goes back to 1915, when the former salesman of the Bull Tractor Company, Frank Donaldson Sr., was asked by a customer for advice, as his tractor was repeatedly struggling with breakdowns.
The problem here was dust, which was causing the tractor's engine to fail.
Frank Donaldson then designed a simple air filter, the first effective air filter for a tractor engine at the time.

Frank Donaldson became an inventor and began to sell his air filter on the market. The Donaldson Company was founded.

Expansion all over the world

Exactly 30 years after its founding, the company was able to expand due to increased demand and established a location in Ontario, Canada.
Donaldson now has locations in over 40 countries around the world, including more than 20 distribution centres and over 40 production sites.
Donaldson stands for constant innovation and the highest quality, indicative of the group's growth.

TORIT dedusting systems expand the portfolio

In 1974, Donaldson Filtration made a significant merger when it acquired TORIT and was able to play a major role in the growth of an industrial dust collection market.
TORIT was a renowned manufacturer of dust collection equipment.
Today, dust collectors are still sold under the Donaldson TORIT brand.
Especially production facilities where large amounts of dust emissions are generated by grinding, polishing and crushing processes in metal processing, but also in the processing of wood, benefit from such dust collection systems.

Products

Donaldson manufactures its filtration solutions for nearly all industries.
The articles, which Donaldson also manufactures and sells under Donaldson TORIT, find their place in almost all segments of society.
Whether in industry, where many substances arise during production that have to be separated, or to keep production machines at a high quality, or in the production of food.
Donaldson filters are also used in construction, where engines of commercial vehicles need to be protected or, for example, bulk materials need to be filtered.
Logistics and aviation also benefit from Donaldson filters, as the filters perform at the highest level and reduce operating costs and downtime.
In aviation, for example, filters are used to keep cabin air clean, or to filter avionics cooling and protect turbines.

Donaldson Filtration says its products are used in 24+ industries.

Air dryers

Donaldson's air dryers are used to protect air tanks and valves on compressed air systems. This effectively protects pneumatic equipment from contaminants, such as water vapour and oil vapour, or other types.

Air intake systems

Since an engine draws in a lot of air, depending on its displacement, it is important to supply this air in a pure form in order to achieve an optimal combustion process.
A high-quality air filter and an equally high-quality air intake system are therefore almost mandatory for good engine maintenance to protect against dust pollution.
But air filters are also used in other machines, for example in high-performance mining machines.

Tank filter systems

To protect the engine and other parts from pollutants and impurities that find their way into the machine when refuelling fuels and refilling lubricating fluids, it is important to filter the filled substances.
This ultimately saves costs and downtime can be minimised as parts such as injectors are protected from contamination and need to be replaced less frequently.

Cabin air filter

Not only the vehicle, but also the driver must be protected from pollutants such as soot, dust or allergens.
To achieve this, Donaldson offers air filters for vehicle cabs.

Coolant filter

It is estimated that coolant system failures are responsible for nearly 50% of all engine failures.
The coolant system dissipates heat during operation and has to deal with all kinds of problems, such as acid, foreign matter, foaming or rust.
To protect the coolant system from these problems, Donaldson provides a variety of coolant filters.

Exhaust systems

Exhaust systems such as mufflers, exhaust manifolds, tailpipes and other accessories are also part of Donaldson's product portfolio.

Hydraulic filters

Just like pneumatics, hydraulics in vehicles and systems must also be protected from contamination.
For this purpose, Donaldson offers hydraulic filter heads and housings, spin-on filters and cartridge filters, as well as cartridge filters that maintain and protect the effectiveness of lubricants and hydraulic fluids.

Urea Filters

To reduce nitrogen oxides in emissions, SCR catalytic converters (SCR = selective catalytic reduction) are used today.
In this process, urea solutions are added to the process. These urea solutions must of course be filtered before they are injected into the SCR systems.
Donaldson also offers high-quality filter systems for this purpose.
